Vision & Sound

I came across some new work by John Dessereau, a talented young artist I met in Brooklyn over the summer. He works for an established artist, Shimon Okshteyn, who I recently posed for after meeting him through John. I'm a fan of his fluid lines, use of colors & surrealist style. Check him out...

New York is a huge sea of talent squeezed into a small crowded city, and when you live in it all your life, you become surrounded by a lot of creative people. A lot of my friends (most of them are native New Yorkers like myself) are the most creative individuals I know (note to self: blog more about my awesome friends). Among them is my good friend Marlon, a.k.a. DJ ARQ. He DJ'd at my summertime Brooklyn rooftop party and helped make that party what is was. He's great at what he does and he just released his Winter '09 Mix (DOWNLOAD!), but most importantly, he's an insomniac with great hair from Queens (QUEENS REPRESENTTTTT!). Freals.

Sofia Coppola's Marie Antoinette

I re-watched this movie for the billionth time. I love all of Sofia's films, but there's something indulging about Marie Antoinette. If you like highly stylized aesthetics like I do, the movie is 120 minutes of pastel eye candy against the ornate backdrop of Versailles. Sofia shaked up the typical stale Period piece with cookies, cake, and sherbert colors making up the palette of the movie... maaaaajor eyeball sex.

I'm partially biased because the film's anachronistic soundtrack that consists mostly of New Wave / Post-Punk are my favorite kind of tunes. I bet me and Sofia's itunes are crazy similar. Her movies always has that synth-pop/new wave/indie feel. But I'm sure our musical preferences arent the only thing Sofia & I have in common. C'mon, Sofia. I've peeped the way the clocks in your movies are always coincidently set to 4:20.

like a leaf clings to a tree
oh my darling,
cling to me
for we're creatures of the wind
And wild is the wind,
so wild is the wind"

this weekend, sans pants

Happy Novemburrrr. Halloween was last night and I spent the whole weekend getting wasted in a Wonder Woman costume. Although getting drunk without pants was fun, I personally won't miss the lengthy process of having to get naked just to pee.

Danielle finally sent me the pics from our trip to Cuzco, Peru in August. She managed to take some lovely pics despite the fact that she might of been delirious from a combo of altitude-sickness pills and lots of Inca Cola...

by way of Wes Anderson

If you're not familiar with all his films, you're missing out. Seriously. Go and netflix his shit right now. I'm a devout fan of all his movies. I consider his movies masterpieces. The man is not only a phenomenal director, but also an auteur (he also does the writing/ cinematography/ production design/ music selection). I could go into heavy detail and write forever about his work, but I'd rather let it speak for itself.

Here are my favorite two minutes in cinematic history. Everything about this scene is perfect; the song, the timing, the single-file line of navy seals that walk behind Luke Wilson.... sigh. Wes, I'm at your feet.
